Powered by two of the biggest names in marine propulsion, Cummins and Mercruiser. The 120hp Cummins diesel engine is powerful enough for top speeds in the mid 40`s and small and light enough to keep the boat very agile and easy to handle. The outdrive is by Mercuriser the largest producer of sterndrives in the marine industry.
The Helms 21 Diesel was originally conceived as a tender for large yachts so that they finally do not have to carry extra tanks of gas for it`s tenders. But with a price that is considerably less than a 200hp 4-stroke outboard. Not to mention the price at the pump for diesel fuel has remained lower than gas. When it`s all said and done this is one of the most economical boat and motor packages available today.
While the Helms 21 Diesel uses the same proven hull of the standard Helms 21 it has some features that can only be done with diesel power. Most notable being the fuel tank. The fuel tank has been integrated into the hull construction. An integrated fuel tank is not only safer, it is far less likely to leak and require expensive repairs when compared to the typical aluminum fuel tanks used throughout the marine industry.
Traveling fishermen will love this boat!
As we all know diesel power has long been thought to raise more fish than gas or outboard power while trolling. It also produces a cleaner wake (less bubbles) than outboard power. The rumble of a diesel does not tend to spook fish like an outboard so, you can get closer than you ever thought was possible.
Let`s recap here. A diesel is less expensive to purchase, use and maintain, safer, and will allow you to catch more fish. Now do we have to say anymore?
