Peapods being built as part of the educational programs at the Landing School are designed by Doug Hylan and truly represents the traditional Maine coast peapod, updated with the most modern materials and construction techniques. Built with glued lapstrake planking from the highest quality materials, they reflect even greater durability and sturdiness than was characteristic of the original working pods. Laminated mahogany stems are glued and bolted to the solid mahogany keel for added strength. Once the hull has been built, it is coated with an epoxy barrier coat inside and out. This modern construction method gives the boat additional rigidity as well as ease of maintenance while keeping a traditional appearance. All fasteners are made of silicon bronze. The two rowing thwarts and both end seats are varnished mahogany, and rubrails are covered with a canvas gunwale guard that sets off the beautiful sweeping sheer. Each boat is sold with sailing sprit rig and a pair of spruce oars.
